What is Kendo?

Kendo was developed from traditional techniques of Japanese swordsmanship known as kenjutsu. The word comes from "ken" meaning "sword" and "do" meaning "way of." That is, "way of the sword."

Kendo combines physical and mental challenging activities. Practitioners of this martial art are called kendōka meaning "one who practices kendo", or kenshi meaning "swordsman".

Kendo is practised wearing a Keiko-gi also called kendo-gi or do-gi, is a jacket-like garment made of thickly quilted cotton and Hakama which resembles a pleated skirt in its outward appearance.

"Kendo teaches us many valuable skills: discipline, respect to all people and honor”. Kenshi Samir Dakduk
